Nanometer violet tungsten oxide can be applied in heat insulating window glass in the form of heat insulating film. Such heat insulation film is suitable for buses, private cars, bullet train, and the like. Violet tungsten oxide can also be used to prepare ultrafine tungsten carbide powder.
Some scholars used blue tungsten oxide as a reference sample to prepare a certain amount of powder from two kinds of tungsten oxide (violet tungsten oxide and blue tungsten oxide), and then separately prepared ultrafine tungsten carbide powder by reduction and carbonization. Then, the morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy; the particle size was determined by an average particle size analyzer; the specific surface area of the powder was measured by a nitrogen adsorption ratio surface meter and the BET diameter was calculated.
As a result, it was found that the violet tungsten oxide (VTO) has finer grain size and more uniform particle size than the blue tungsten oxide. And VTO also has a better particle size distribution, which is looser than blue tungsten oxide material. In order to understand the morphology of tungsten oxide, the microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The below shows the microscopic morphology of blue tungsten oxide picture (with W20O58 as the main phase).
The below shows the microscopic morphology of violet tungsten oxide picture (mainly W18O49). As can be seen from the two morphology images, there are significant differences in the morphology of the two kinds of tungsten oxide. The surface crack of the violet tungsten oxide is more abundant than the blue tungsten oxide.
