Inorganic Electrochromic Material: WO3 Film

WO3 film is an inorganic electrochromic material. Also, it is an oxide film of a transition metal. The tungsten trioxide film is a cathode coloring material as well. It is necessary to apply a negative voltage to the material end to color the metal cation to a low-cost reduced state, and to be colorless in the high-valent oxidation state. Other cathode coloring materials include MoO3, NB2O5, TiO2, and the like.

While how to judge whether a type of material is a cathode coloring material or an anode coloring material? It depends on the color change characteristics of the electrochromic material. The coloring of the anode coloring material is opposite to that of the cathode coloring material, in which the metal cation is colored in a high-valent oxidation state, and in a low-cost reduction state, it is in a colorless state. The anode coloring material includes NiOx, IROx, Co2O3, Rh2O3, MnO2, and the like.
