WO3 nano film is an EC layer material of an electrochromic device. It is reported that the structure of the electrochromic device has three types including three-layer type, four-layer type and five-layer type. The five-layer type electrochromic device has a structure in which five layers of electrochromic material are sandwiched between two layers of conductive glass.

The five-layer electrochromic device is constructed using "glass/TC/EC/IC/IS/TC/glass". Wherein the TC layer, that is, the transparent conductive layer, is mainly used to establish an electric field. EC layer, that is, electrochromic layer, is the occurrence layer of the color change reaction. IC layer, that is, ion conductor layer, dings to transport ions to block electrons between EC layer and IS layer. IS layer, that is, ion storage layer, is used for storing ions and balancing the charge. In addition, the three-layer type and the four-layer type electrochromic device concentrate the dings of one of the two layers into one layer of materials, and the principle is based on the "sandwich" type structure of the five-layer film.
