WO3 nanocrystalline can be used as an electrochromic layer to assemble a flexible electrochromic device, which has very high light transmission and very fast bleaching speed. For example, some experts have assembled liquid electrolyte flexible electrochromic devices with high optical transition rates based on WO3 nanocrystals and ZnO nanorod array electrodes.

The experts coated a layer of ZnO seed on PET, then prepared ZnO nanorods by low temperature hydrothermal synthesis, and then prepared amorphous WO3 nanocrystals on the surface of ZnO nanorods by pulsed laser deposition to obtain the electrochromic layer. The TiO2 deposited on the FTO substrate was used as the counter electrode. The two electrodes were separated by a 100 μm thick thermoplastic suryl. A 0.1 mol/L LiClO4/PC electrolyte was placed between the two electrodes by a capillary tube, then wrapped in epoxy resin, and then sealed to obtain an electrochromic device with a fading speed of 4.2 s and 4 s, respectively.
